Scouting is much more than just a wholesome and enjoyable activity. The Boy Scouts of America is the nation’s foremost youth program of character development and values-based leadership training. Active Scouts develop initiative, leadership, self-reliance, and self-confidence. Scouting helps boys become good citizens, leaders and achievers in the adult world.

Over the years, hundreds of young men in this community have experienced the adventure that Scouting offers as members of  a Boy Scout Troop . Ours troop is looking to build on that  tradition of excellence and achievement, offering a varied camping program and a challenging advancement experience.

The success of Troop 472 has been, and continues to be, dependent upon the participation of Scout parents. As a parent, you will want your son to get the most out of his Scouting experience. You’ll want to keep the dates of Troop 472 activities on your calendar, encourage your son as he progresses in the advancement program, and perhaps even assist him as he masters some Scouting skills.

Dads should seriously consider joining Scouting, either as an uniformed leader or as an active member of the troop committee. Other opportunities to help are numerous – providing transportation for outings; helping organize and participating in Troop camping trips; helping maintain Troop equipment; serving as a merit badge counselor in a hobby or career field you are familiar with. Your participation in these activities and your offers of help when the Troop has a need will show your son that you support him and want him to have the best experience possible in Scouting. Scouts whose parents are actively supportive are much more likely to stay involved and to experience all that Scouting has to offer.

We trust that your decision to become involved in Troop 472 will result in an experience of good fun, exciting adventures, and hopefully, great rewards for your son and you as well.

Yours in Scouting,

Mike Maxey Jr
Troop 472 Scoutmaster
